Gems Little Tee 'Bucky' (1980-2010)
Today we lost a great horse. Bucky has been such a great asset to our family. We first purchased Bucky in 1998 as an eighteen-year-old! We never dreamed he'd get us through two kids! Not to mention everything Ned and I won riding him.
He's had more miles on him than I could ever dream of having. He was born in Ontario, traveled to Texas, then ended up in New York.
Not long after we purchased him, Ned competed on him at the Northeast Calf Ropers Association ropings, where he ended the season as the champion roper. That's when he also won a saddle competing on Bucky!
We hauled him to the Josey Ranch in Marshall, TX so Zach could attend the week-long Josey Calf Roping clinic. He's been to numerous professional rodeos, youth rodeos, high school rodeos and jackpots along his journey.
Zach also placed in a round of the 12 & under breakaway roping at the 1999 Barry Burk Jr. Roping event in Ardmore, OK.
When Zach competed on him at the Central PA Youth Rodeos, he won numerous awards. Zach had no trouble roping calves in the breakaway in under two seconds riding Bucky. He was a huge confidence booster.
I've competed on Bucky at numerous American Finals Rodeos, back when the finals was held in Harrisburg, PA and Syracuse, NY.
When Buck was 26-years-old I won the average on him at the American Finals Rodeo 29 held in Indiana, PA. I also won the Clarkson Rodeo Days in the breakaway roping that same year.
Then, along came Zane. He also competed on Bucky at the Central PA Youth rodeos when he was 6 and 7-years-old.
In 2008, yes Bucky was 28-years-old then, Zane won the Reserve All-Around Championship and the Reserve Barrel Racing Championship riding Bucky.
He will be greatly missed.
